Looks like a new craft burger restaurant is planning to open in the Village neighborhood of Jersey City.

The company, Diesel and Duke, with other locations in Montclair and New Brunswick, has built a cult following for their simple-yet-creative gourmet burgers since first opening in 2014 just two blocks from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Two years later, they opened their second location in Montclair. Since then, the company’s handmade, cooked to order and never frozen burgers have gained quite a following.

Diesel and Duke sets themselves apart with their handmade, cooked to order and never frozen burgers as well as a slate of unique menu offerings like poutine and fried Oreos. Its New Brunswick location recently introduced a donut burger, that replaces the bun with a glazed donut. (Drool!) They also serve a selection of sandwiches and hot dogs.

The Jersey City location is planned for 389 Monmouth Street, on the corner Monmouth and Second Street, which was most recently home to Liberty Tax. The 1,100 sq. ft. space was brokered by Bobby Antonicello, Jr. of GRID Real Estate.

“Once again Jersey City is proving to be a Mecca for restauranteurs and it’s becoming a food destination like Paramus is a must have for national retailers, Jersey City is a must have location for restaurant groups looking to expand their footprint,” said Antonicello.

Representatives from Diesel and Duke are presenting their proposal tonight at the Village Neighborhood Association meeting. No timeline for the project has been released. A request for comment from the company was not immediately returned.
